Here is a very early Native American fish decoy which comes from Michigan. it
measures 7 1/4" long and has a carved mouth and tiny hand cut metal diskswhich
are held in place with small nails for eyes. The side and dorsal fins are cut from old
scrounged pieces of aluminum. There are numbers stamped into this metal but it
is difficult to determine what they were originally. The dorsal fin looks like a key. It
is stamped 1908. It appears that there may have been an anal finwhich is now
gone. The decoy has woodburned accent markings and is finished in natural wood
which has been treated with linseed oil. The condition is beautiful and original.
