ED FRERKS RED STURGEON 1950 (CLICK HERE)

Ed Frerks ran the lone Willow resort on Winnecone, Wisconsin. His spearing
decoys were made specifically for spearing Sturgeon on Lake Winnebago and are
extremely rare. This Frerks decoy measures 10 1/2" long and is the actual decoy
pictured in the reference book "THE FISH DECOY, VOLUME 3 on page 143. The
condition is great with normal wear and excellent patina. There are remnants
of silver paint visible beneath the red. This may have been an original color
that was painted over in red many years ago. The chamfered blocks of wood
attached to the sides and top of this great decoy represent Sturgeon scutes
and are classic Frerks decorations. This is a major, museum quality
work with excellent documentation and provenance. It was originally part of the Art
Kimball collection and then became part of the David Wise Collection.
