MANNY ERICKSON LG. SUNFISH (CLICK HERE)

Manny Erickson's (deceased) fish decoys are beautiful works of art and are highly
collectible. They are included in the reference book FISH DECOY MAKERS PAST
AND PRESENT (available in the reference book section of this website) and were
also the subject of a feature article in Hunting and Fishing Collectibles Magazine a
few years ago. This outstanding and large Erickson Sunfish measures 8 3/4" long
and 4 1/4" tall. It has a nice, fat body shape, carved gills and a carved mouth. This
decoy was carved by Manny and hand painted a lady friend of his named Catherine
Rosewood. The decoys painted by Rosewood are stunning works of art. The
condition is excellent and unfished. There is a flaw in the original decoy that
looks like a crack along the edge of the belly weight and up the right side. This
was done in the making of the decoy and should not be a problem but should be
pointed out. The maker has signed it with his carved initials in the belly and the
painter has also signed it with her initials and dated the decoy 1996. Manny
Erickson decoys are getting very difficult to come by. It is reported that he only
made about a hundred and many are in the hands of collectors. They exhibit
outstanding folk art qualities and excellent personality. They are destined to
escalate in value as they are exposed to a wider collector base and appreciated for
their outstanding decorative properties.
