David Perkins fish decoys are long established in Folk Art Fish Decoy carving
history. They are included in collector's reference books on noted fish decoy
carvers as well as various limited edition prints. This outstanding and rare Perkins
Bluegill Sunfish measures 8" long. It has inset glass eyes, fully carved gills and a
textured finish. Sunfish are also very uncommon. I don't think this carver has
done more than a handful of them over the years. Mr. Perkins gives each of his
decoys a special patina which simulates age and use. This decoy has the old
style, textured finish which is very difficult to find. The decoy is signed DFD (Duluth
Fish Decoy) in the belly weight and has an old Buffalo Nickle set into each side.
Generally Perkins decoys with the inset coins are top of the line and more
expensive. It has been completely hand carved and hand painted in a wonderful,
subtle bluegill form. The condition is excellent and unfished with light wear. Please
