MINNESOTA FISH DECOYS~OLD
JOHN MOTHERWAY PIKE 1950 (CLICK HERE)
This decoy was made by old time Minnesota carver John Motherway in the late
40s to about 1950. It takes the classic form of a pike or muskie and is very
collectible. Motherway was from northern Minnesota and it is rumored that he was
of Native American ancestry. Very little else is known about this carver and his
decoys are seldom seen. This example measures 7 1/2" long and is painted in a
classic combination of black and white It is in wonderful, original condition with
a small chip of wood missing next to the lead belly weight. It appears that
an adjustment was made to the weight as an in use enhancement. The decoy has
excellent patina and normal light wear.
