C H WINCHEL SUNFISH 1930 (CLICK HERE

This wonderfully folky fish decoy was made by a very obscure Minnesota maker
names C. H. Winchel. It is one of onlu three known by this maker. Winchel
decoys are featured in the book THE FISH DECOY, Volume 3 on page 118 and
are incredibly rare. This example of probably the best of the known works by this
maker. It measures 4" long and dates to about 1930. The decoy is decorated with
a combination of paint and woodburning techniques and has exceptional folk art
qualities and visual appeal. The condition is beautiful and original with wonderful
patina and excellent age. The similarities to traditional work being done by Native
American makers of the time period is undeniable and there is speculation that Mr.
Winchel may have either been Native American or was influenced by their designs.
