Leroy Howell is one of the top names in old time fish decoy carvers. His body of
work spanned several decades and his decoys are highly collectible. This
wonderful, old Howell walleye measures 8 1/4" long and is painted in a mustard
yellow and cream color combination. There is a woodburned line which separares
the two colors. This configuration is highly unusual and we have only seen it a
couple of times over the years. The eyes are double incised and painted gold
around a black pupil. This decoy has excellent surface and wonderful patina. it
shows minimal signs of age such as paint loss to the belly weight and a few scuffs
here and there. Overall it is just about a nice as you will ever see in an old decoy.
